Cove and Kilcreggan RNLI plans 40th anniversary events

A street market was organised in Kilcreggan last year for the first time by the local RNLI committee.

Cove and Kilcreggan’s branch of the RNLI is celebrating its ruby anniversary this year.

And the volunteers’ first fund-raising event of the year will be a street market in Kilcreggan later this month.

On Saturday April 23 the group will be 40 years old, and will be holding the event in the heart of Kilcreggan near the pier from 10am to 1pm.

Since 1982 the local branch has raised thousands of pounds by organising events, including the Cove and Kilcreggan flower show, afternoon teas, coffee mornings and sales.

And last year, due to Covid-19 restrictions and uncertainty about whether any indoor events would be able to take place, the committee turned to the great outdoors to raise money.

Branch chairwoman Elsa Burgess said: “It was the first time we had tried our hands at a street market, which turned out to be a great success.

“And it seems appropriate that, in our ruby anniversary year, the market – our first event of 2022 – will be held on the very same day the Cove and Kilcreggan branch was formed.”

There will be home baking, plants, RNLI goods and a raffle, while it is also hoped that the RNLI’s own Stormy Stan will land at the pier to enjoy the celebrations.
