International award for Cove photographer

A photographer from Cove has become one of just 300 people across the UK to have been awarded membership of the ‘Photographers Bar’.

And Louise Walker was unusual in that she achieved the honour in two categories – pets and natural world.

The bar was launched eight years ago and it is only awarded to those photographers who have successfully had images assessed by the Guild of Photographers over the course of a year and have attained a score that evidences ‘an exceptional level of professional skill and consistency’, throughout that time.

The competition attracted over 13,000 entries last year, which were all judged by an expert panel of judges each month.

Points are allocated to entries and these are then totalled at the end of the year, with those who reach the required threshold being awarded membership of the ‘Photographers Bar’.

Louise, who runs her own pet photography business PetPixPhoto, said: “I’m so happy to have achieved this award.

“It was hard work but definitely worth the effort.

“I would have loved to have studied photography when I was younger but it was not to be, so I’m very happy that I’m getting the opportunity now to study and improve my skills while putting it into practice as a small business.”

Only about 300 photographers have achieved this award since its inception, during which time almost 90,000 images will have been entered for assessment by photographers across the UK and from overseas.

The award was announced at a ceremony at Crewe Hall last weekend.

Guild directors Steven and Lesley Thirsk said: “We are delighted for Louise Walker as this is a great achievement!

“Submitting and having images assessed every month for a year and reaching the required standards to become a member of the Photographers Bar is very demanding.

“It illustrates her commitment, skill, and consistency. Louise should be immensely proud of what they have achieved.”
