A814 to close in Helensburgh next week

East Clyde Street has been closed several times because of the dangerous building

Waterproofing works are behind the latest closure of a stretch of Helensburgh’s East Clyde Street, Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed.

The area of the A814 between its junctions with Sinclair and Maitland Streets will be closed from Monday, January 31 to Friday, February 4.

It has been shut on numerous occasions over the years due to a dangerous building at 5-7 East Clyde Street. Interest from a developer to take over the building, demolish and rebuild it, was discussed by the full council in September.

A council spokesperson said: “As a result of the private owners failing to take action, the council is having to carry out essential waterproofing works to the building to prevent it falling into further disrepair.

“Discussions regarding long-term solutions are ongoing.”

  1. Not entirely clear what is planned. Is the building to be demolished during this period or will they prop it up again until plans are finalised? Another prop up is another waste of money. It should have been taken down long ago.
