Covid-19 test kits on offer at train station

Covid-19 test kits are now available at Helensburgh Central train station.

Live Argyll and Argyll & Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) are offering free Lateral Flow Device (LFD) kits for the remainder of COP26 and for one week after the conference ends.

The kits are intended to detect the presence of Covid-19 proteins (antigens) when people do not have any symptoms – around one in three people with coronavirus do not show symptoms and can spread the virus to others without knowing.

Dr Nicola Schinaia, the HSCP’s associate director for public health, said: “Regular LFD testing plays a vital part in keeping our families and communities safe by breaking chains of transmission.

“LFD tests should be used regularly if you do not have symptoms. If you develop even mild Covid-19 symptoms you should self-isolate and book a PCR test immediately.”

The kits can be collected from Live Argyll staff at the station, or from the Victoria Halls Helensburgh from Tuesday to Friday, between 9.30am and 4pm, until November 19.

Thereafter they will be reverting back to opening on Saturdays from 9.30am to 1pm.

LFD test kits can also be obtained from Covid-19 testing sites and pharmacies or they can be ordered to be received through the post by calling 119.

LFD test results are available in 15 minutes compared with up to 48 hours for PCR (polymerase chain reaction) results.

PCR tests are more sensitive and have to be processed in a laboratory.
