Grants for shopfronts in rural areas

Kilcreggan post office was given a bright new look this summer.

Grants to improve shopfronts in rural areas across Argyll and Bute have been made available.

Argyll and Bute Council says its shopfront improvement grant is helping to transform businesses, attracting more people and investment to the area.

Grants are available to smaller settlements and rural retail businesses. They can help with painting, joinery and masonry work.

Using Scottish Government place based investment funding, the grant aims to support place policy ambitions such as town centre revitalisation.

Council leader Robin Currie said: “The shopfront improvement scheme has helped businesses transform their shopfronts and increased footfall as a direct result.

“We have seen fantastic success stories of vacant shops reopening, businesses getting a new lease of life and communities and visitors shopping local.

“I’m particularly pleased that these grants are now available to smaller settlements and rural retail businesses.

“If you are thinking about repairs to your own shopfront and need some additional help, I would encourage you to apply for the grant as soon as possible.”

More information including criteria and an application form are on the council website.

Applications close on Friday December 17. Work must be complete by June 30, 2022.
