Top dogs Olive and Mabel to appear at Cove and Kilcreggan Book Festival

Social media sensation Andrew Cotter and his dogs Olive and Mabel will be taking part in this year’s Cove and Kilcreggan Book Festival.

And with Cove Burgh Hall opening up for events again this month, a Burns Supper is being planned for January – with the SNP’s Mike Russell toasting the lassies, followed by a reply from Labour MSP Jackie Baillie.

The book festival was held online last year because of Covid-19 restrictions, but it is hoped that it will be back to normal in 2021, although backup plans for a hybrid event have been drawn up, with author interviews being filmed in case there are problems holding a physical event.

The first author to be announced is sports commentator Andrew Cotter, who took the internet by storm last year with his voiceover videos of labradors Olive and Mabel – this video alone has been viewed more than 3m times.

Further details have yet to be confirmed, but a packed line-up of award-winning authors is promised for the weekend of November 27-28.

With Covid-19 restrictions being relaxed, the community-run hall has welcomed back users this month including ballroom and line dancing, yoga, the lunch club, anglers and the library.

The AGM is scheduled for September 30, and Mule Theatre will be performing Every Brilliant Thing on November 20.

The traditional Hogmanay Ball had to be cancelled, but a Burns Supper will be held in earl 2022, featuring tenor Jamie McDougall, Burns specialist Gerry Carruthers and traditional singer Robyn Stapleton.

Details of all events will be available on the hall’s website.
