Kilcreggan market raised over £1,000 for RNLI

A new event in Kilcreggan raised over £1,000 for the RNLI last weekend.

The charity’s local fundraising committee decided to cancel the village’s annual flower show in Cove Burgh Hall due to continuing doubts about Covid-19 restrictions, but decided to try a summer market instead.

The market was held in the centre of Kilcreggan, using the village’s large bus stop to house stalls, as well as an area beside the pier.

Crowds of visitors turned out to enjoy the raffle, plant stall, garden produce and home baking, with the total raised coming to £1,058.15.

After an appeal for raffle donation, the Cove and Kilcreggan RNLI branch was delighted to be contacted by Morrisons in Helensburgh, which donated a luxury hamper.

The branch’s chairwoman, Elsa Burgess, said: “I am over the moon about the amount we raised. I think the figures speak for themselves and that the street market should become an annual event.

“This is a truly wonderful result – thank you so much to our volunteers, all the visitors who came along to support us, Morrisons for the fantastic hamper, and to those who donated all the plants, vegetables, fruit, baking and other goodies.”
