Classic car event returns to Helensburgh and Rosneath Peninsula

A classic car event will be returning to Helensburgh and the Rosneath Peninsula this month.

Last year’s inaugural event saw a wide range of cars owned by members of the Scottish Western Thoroughbred Vehicle Club travelling from Helensburgh to Cove Burgh Hall.

David Morgan, who is a familiar sight around Kilcreggan as he drives his 1928 Austin Tourer Heavy 12, helped to organise the first event.

He also has a saloon version of the Austin Tourer, a 1927 Rolls Royce Tourer, and a 1958 Austin A35.

Last year the event was limited due to Covid restrictions, but this time there will be a chance to have a close look at the cars and meet the owners while they stop at Cove Burgh Hall.

Last year almost 20 cars took part and, weather permitting, the plan is for a few more to join this year, with some hoping to drive across from the east coast. Not all the cars are completely waterproof so weather will play a part.

The cars will be in the Kidston car park at around 11am on Saturday August 14.

They then will drive back eastwards along the front, turning at the roundabout at the old Hermitage School site then returning westwards, following the coast road through Helensburgh, Rhu, Shandon, Garelochhead, Clynder, Rosneath and Kilcreggan before making their stop at Cove Burgh Hall.

The plan is for the cars to be on show in the hall car park between 12.15 and 1.45pm.
