Kilcreggan’s Porch Gallery will pop up again

Raffle prizes were donated by artists and local businesses

The summer show at Kilcreggan’s pop-up contemporary art space has finished, with a number of charities benefiting from its success.

Held from June 4-20, The Porch Gallery exhibition featured 20 artists from around the Helensburgh and Lomond area, elsewhere in Scotland and further afield.

Dozens of people visited during the two-week pop-up – the gallery, owned by Fiona Holland, first appeared in November last year as a tiny space in her porch, just two metres square.

This time, however, mindful of Covid restrictions and distancing, it expanded into the house’s dining room, too, allowing more comfortable spacing for visitors – earning the nickname of The Porch Plus.

In addition to the exhibition itself, the gallery also held a raffle to raise money for the RNLI.

Prizes were donated by artists involved in the show, as well as The Scandinavian Shop and La Barca/Cattle and Creel/Padrone in Helensburgh.

“The raffle raised in excess of £430 and the gallery will top that up to £500,” said Fiona.

“I couldn’t be more delighted to have had such great support for the RNLI and would like to thank all those who donated such amazing prizes, as well as all the visitors who dug deep to support us.”

As well as the RNLI, four other charities including Mary’s Meals, Medecins sans Frontières, Scottish SPCA and British Divers Marine Life Rescue are all also set to benefit from proceeds.

It brings the total being donated to good causes to almost £900.

And will The Porch Plus return?

“Everyone’s been asking this,” said Fiona.

“And the answer is ‘yes’ – we’ll do another one on the run-up to Christmas. We’ve had such great support from visitors – we even had visitors from Edinburgh and Glasgow this time.

“People really seem to love it and I’m so grateful for both repeat customers, as well as new ones.

“Everyone can keep up to date with when the next one will be, as well as which artists will show, at The Porch Gallery Facebook page.

“So, until then it’s a huge thank you from me and The Porch and looking forward to the next one.”
