Alert after package found at entrance to nuclear base

Sections of road were closed last night after a suspicious package was found near the Coulport armaments depot on the Rosneath Peninsula.

Part of the B833 road beside Loch Long was temporarily closed off by Ministry of Defence Police, with traffic including buses having to turn round at the junction with the Peaton Hill.

An MoD spokesperson said: “An unattended package was discovered outside the main gate at RNAD Coulport yesterday evening.

“A cordon was put in place while an investigation took place.

“The package posed no threat and was removed from the scene.”
