Walk to School Week backed by MSP

MSP Jackie Baillie took part in Walk to School Week, joining a pupil on he way to Colgrain Primary in Helensburgh.

The initiative is organised by Living Streets, a charity for everyday walking which has been campaigning for a better walking environment for over 90 years and was behind the UK’s first zebra crossings and speed limits.

Today it campaigns for better streets and works with schools, communities and workplaces to get people walking.

The Dumbarton constituency MSP joined P2 pupil Isla MacLeod on her Monday morning walk to school and said afterwards: “Walk-to-school week is a fantastic initiative and one that I would encourage everyone to get involved in!

“Whether you are lucky enough to walk the whole way from home to school or are able to walk part of the way, starting the day with a walk is a fantastic way for pupils to get some exercise and fresh air before they start their day of learning.

“Living Streets are doing a great job at encouraging us all to get out and be more active.”
