Knockderry House Hotel on the market for £1.5m

Knockderry House Hotel in Cove has gone on sale, with offers over £1.5m invited.

The historic building, designed by William Leiper, was bought by Murdo and Beth MacLeod 20 years ago but is now being marketed by estate agents Savills.

Mr MacLeod said the sale was not related to the effects of Covid-19 on the hospitality sector over the last 12 months.

“We’ve got a great bunch of people, we’ve managed to hang it together and we’re looking forward to opening up again,” he said.

“The more significant thing is that I turned 70 in January and it seems a reasonable time, after 20 years, to let somebody younger have a go.”

The 15-bedroom hotel has been given four stars by the AA and Visit Scotland and also has two AA Rosettes, while four moorings on Loch Long are included in the price.

Savills’ website states: “The owners have sympathetically restored and converted this outstanding building into one of the finest country house hotels in the area, with a setting and external appeal second to none.

“Whilst currently in operation commercially, the property’s layout and accommodation is incredibly versatile and could easily be returned to its former splendour as a privately owned mansion house.

“The features throughout, given the architectural heritage, are naturally most impressive.

“Magnificent wood panelling, decorative ceiling roses and cornicing, handsome fireplaces and beautiful bay windows are just a few of the features displayed throughout the property.”
