New housing plans revealed for Fort Road in Kilcreggan

Plans for eight new houses, with Fort Road in Kilcreggan being widened and realigned, have been revealed.

This is the sixth time that a planning application for this area, which is classed as a site of importance for nature conservation, has been submitted to Argyll and Bute Council.

But a planning statement submitted to the council by architects David E Lindsay says the latest plan supersedes an earlier proposal for four larger homes.

“Each block of two semi-detached houses sits within the footprint of the previously approved larger house,” the statement adds.

“This revision of house type is in response to feedback from the local community whereby smaller scale housing units are in demand rather than the larger executive detached dwellings found further along Fort Road.

“Through the provision of smaller scale housing, younger buyers and young families are encouraged to move within and to the Kilcreggan area, resulting in increased pupil numbers within the village school, something which has been in sharp decline over recent years.”

It adds that a footway/cycle path would be created, and the junction with the B833 realigned.

The application has been submitted by Portkil Seaview Estate Ltd, whose registered address is the Old Boat Yard, Kilcreggan.

As well as this proposal, Argyll and Bute Council’s website shows the following planning applications for land north of West Shore Cottage, Fort Road:

  • 14 houses, proposed in 2012 – withdrawn
  • 6 houses, proposed in 2015 – pending decision
  • 4 houses, proposed in 2019 – approved
  • 12 houses, proposed in 2020 – withdrawn
  • 12 houses, proposed in 2020 – approved

Details of the latest planning application are on the council’s website – the reference number is 21/00066/PP .
