Workers at Morrisons in Helensburgh are taking on a five million step challenge to help the CLIC Sargent cancer charity next month.
Community champion Alison Sturgeon originally signed up for a 500 000 step challenge and asked her people manager Leigh McMurdo to join her- now 19 people are taking part, with more joining every day.
“I decided to make it a team challenge as some staff have sedentary jobs on checkouts or laptops, which makes half a million steps in one month impossible,” said Alison.
“By consolidating our steps as a team effort, we have had far more colleagues joining in which means more life saving funds will be raised.”
A Justgiving page has been set up, and money will also be collected with charity buckets at the tills and kiosk in the store.
UK-wide, Morrisons has a three-year charity partnership with CLIC Sargent and over £10m has been raised so far.
“This is our final year with them, so we want to raise at least £1,000 with our step challenge and increase awareness of the amazing work that they do,” Alison added.
“As a new store with many new colleagues, I wanted to find a way of bringing us all together and I’m delighted to see so many of us teaming up for such a great cause.”
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s biggest children and young people’s cancer charity.
