Police warning to dog owners

Police have warned dog owners to look after their pets after recent incidents of sheep worrying.

Argyll and West Dunbartonshire officers say livestock has been lost in recent attacks and they want to remind dog owners of their responsibilities when near vicinity of fields containing farm animals.

“If you’re going country walks this weekend, bear in mind some important safety advice when walking a dog,” said a spokesperson.

“Sheep are currently pregnant, ready to give birth and are particularly at risk of sheep worrying.

“Please keep your dogs under close control or on leads if walking in the country or at the edge of towns.

“No matter how well trained your dog, if let loose near livestock their natural instincts may kick in.

“Sheep worrying is an offence so please be mindful.”
