‘Avoid unnecessary travel’ plea as national park crosses two tiers

Visitors and residents in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park have been urged to follow new guidance introduced this week which sees different levels of restrictions in place across the area.

The national park, which covers an area of 720 square miles, crosses over four different council areas.

Some sections – the Stirling and West Dunbartonshire Council areas – are in tier three of the new protection levels put in place by the Scottish Government.

But Argyll and Bute is in tier two, as is Perth and Kinross.

Gordon Watson, chief executive of the national park authority, issued the reminder ahead of the weekend.

“With the new national protection measures now in place we are asking all local residents and visitors to the national park to please think carefully about any non-essential travel to, from and around the national park at the moment,” he said.

“We all have a part to play in helping to stop the spread of the virus so it’s vital that we’re all aware of the different levels of restrictions in place across the national park.

“This is a large area covered by four different local authorities so the tiered levels of restrictions are not the same across the national park.

“The Scottish Government’s guidance is to avoid unnecessary travel to or from level three local authority areas.

“This applies to a large area of the national park. For outdoor exercise the guidance for those within level three areas is to keep travel to roughly five miles from your local authority area.

“As we are now moving into the winter period, please also be aware that many facilities such as public toilets have moved to winter opening hours.

“Information is provided on the national park website to help people check on local restrictions and visitor facilities when thinking about visiting.”
