Young piper raised cash for Helensburgh Christmas lights

A teenage piper who played in Helensburgh on Saturday raised nearly £400 for the town’s Christmas lights fund.

Mark J Morrison, from Alexandria, played in Colquhoun Square for two hours to give something back to the community which had welcomed while he played at weekends earlier this year.

And the 15 year-old raised a total of £395, thanks partly to cash given from the donation can in the Terrace Coffee House, plus £150 from the town’s Co-op, which donated £150 from its August book club.

A spokesperson for the Christmas Lights fund said: “Thank you so much Mark for entertaining everyone again in the square today and giving the donations you received to this year’s Christmas lights appeal.

“You are a very talented young man who very kindly spotted that Helensburgh’s Christmas lights are all done by volunteers who have of course to raise the funds they need on an annual basis and your donation made a tremendous start to this year’s appeal.”

The town’s Christmas Lights spectacle has been organised since 2010 by a small group of volunteers.

If anyone would like to donate they can give £5 by texting Xmas to 70490 or pop in to the Terrace Coffee House Helensburgh in Colquhoun Square and speak Davi or Robert who are trustees of the charity.
