Cove’s coastguard station sold – for 15 times initial guide price

Cove’s coastguard station has been sold – for 15 times its initial guide price.

Formerly the village’s fire station, the facility was sold by auction today for £75,000.

The initial guide price had been just £5,000, but this was later revised to £25,000.

It was sold by the then Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service for £24,000 in 2002 and since then has been used by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

The MCA has not responded to questions about whether the loss of the facility will affect its service locally.

The Shore Road property was sold by London-based auctioneers Allsop, who described it has having sea views and ‘possible potential for alternative use, subject to consents’.
