Children’s art contest is latest craft event in Rosneath

A children’s art competition was held in Rosneath this month as the latest event for families during the lockdown.

Karlyn Marshall of Helensburgh Art Hub joined Tracey Dunne and Angel Brammer in judging the entries, then prizes were presented on Sunday in organiser Autumn Brown’s garden, observing social distancing.

Pictured above are first-placed Emily, Hollie (second), Macy (third) and Poppy (fourth).

Autumn has been making free weekly craft kits for children since Easter, and now her garden is known as ‘Lockdown Freebies’ and is open daily from 10am to 4pm.

“I decided that since I had a table outside, it would make sense to use it to an advantage, so started to ask for donations of books, toys, games etc,” she said.

“I now have a huge market stall in my front garden full of items, where everyone, young and old can help themselves to items for free.

With charity shops closed, it has been great for people to get rid of their unwanted items, whilst providing the community with something for free, and adults are benefiting from books, games, dvds etc.”

Autumn says she has also made 1,400 face masks so far, while donations come in daily and her garden is getting busier every week.

“I also set up last week another section in my garden selling plants with monies going to Rosneath Community Garden,” she added.

“Again people have been great, donating plants for the project.

“Hopefully lockdown will be over soon, however at the moment, I shall be carrying this on till the end of the school summer holidays, after which I shall be looking to donate leftover items to the local community groups for coffee morning, fetes etc.”

Donations of books, toys and games are welcome – leave them on the doorstep at 4, Ferry Road and ring the doorbell.

Plants can also be left on the doorstep and anyone buying plants should post payment into the pink post box on the trellis.
