Appeal to passengers as buses get busier

Bus passengers have been urged only to travel when essential – and warned that they may be refused travel if the vehicle is too crowded.

Both Garelochhead Coaches and Wilson’s of Rhu say that in the last few days passenger numbers have increased.

But social distancing rules mean that space on local buses is far more limited than usual, while all passengers are asked to wear face coverings.

Garelochhead Coaches said: “We have noticed a increase in patronage and would like to remind you that government guidance has not changed with regard to travel.

“Public transport should only be used if absolutely necessary. Passengers may be refused travel if social distancing is not maintained.”

And Wilson’s warned: “Please note that government advice remains that public transport should only be used for essential journeys and this has not changed.

“If buses get too busy then passengers may have to be refused travel on some journeys.

“Please help everyone make their essential journey by only using the buses when necessary.”

Passengers on all buses are asked to take a window seat, avoid standing and leave space in front of and behind them.

They should wait for passengers to get off before boarding the bus, and should not stand next to the driver.

Services operated by the two firms include the 316 between Helensburgh and Coulport, the 315 to Kirkmichael and Churchill, 309 to Balmaha, 306 between Alexandria and Helensburgh, 305 to Luss, 302 to Carrick Castle and 207 to Loch Lomond Shores.

Temporary restricted timetables are still in place – for details see the Garelochhead Coaches and Wilson’s websites.

ScotRail services to Helensburgh and Balloch were reported to be busy last weekend despite similar restrictions, and Kilcreggan ferry passengers should only be travelling for work, or to collect food or medicine.
