The Kidston car park in Helensburgh has been closed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Argyll and Bute Council announced today.

A spokesperson said: “Police Scotland advised that Kidston car park has been popular over the last few weeks with visitors parking their vehicles there and then walking along the esplanade.

“The local inspector has asked the council if the car park can be closed to deter this from happening.

“This decision is in line with the decisions already taken to close car parks in Luss, Arrochar and at Duck Bay.

“National guidance is clear – only travel if it’s essential. We all have a duty to act responsibly and keep each other safe from the threat of COVID-19.

“We want to welcome visitors back to Argyll and Bute, but once it is safe to travel.”

  1. How pathetic if you want to do this then the car park at the other end of town should also be shut. I know several old people who can’t walk that well and so drive to Kidston with their morning paper to read for 30 mins. This is the only time that they get out of the house and gives them something to look forward to every day. Just imagine what this will do to their mental health?
Who is to say this is not esential to their mental health? It doesn’t have to be to the supermarket to be esential.

  2. I think the police are in a no win situation here but where next? In Cove near Linn Gardens? Lay-bys? Cant help thinking folk will just park outside houses
