‘Use late bus service or lose it’ appeal

The public have been urged to use the new late night bus service to the Rosneath Peninsula, in case it is withdrawn.

A new service to Coulport, leaving Helensburgh at 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, was requested by Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council after a survey of over 100 people showed 87% were in favour.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) agreed to introduce a later bus on a trial basis – previously the 11pm bus had gone no further than Garelochhead.

But last week the community council heard that take-up had been limited, and chairman Nick Davies encouraged the public to take advantage of the service.

“I did ask SPT what the take-up has been,” he said.

“It has been four or five people – not huge. It is a use it or lose it situation.”

Minutes of SPT meetings do not state how long the trial service will last, but say that combined with another trial – a Sunday daytime service to Helensburgh’s Churchill estate – the cost would be a pro rata increase of £78.10 per week.

The timetable is on SPT’s website, but has not yet been updated on other websites’ such as Argyll and Bute Council’s.

  1. I used it a couple of weeks ago and there were about 20 folk on it. A lot of folk do not realise it is running so maybe we need to do a better job of publicising it?

  2. Hasn’t been very well publicised and also with awful weather I can imagine take up has been limited as maybe less people in Helensburgh until later at night. I can imagine it being hugely popular from April-October
