Brendan O’Hara increases Argyll and Bute majority in General Election

Brendan O’Hara has again held on the Argyll and Bute constituency seat he first won in 2015, with an increased majority.

The SNP candidate took 21,040 votes in yesterday’s General Election, compared to 17,304 and 22,959 two years earlier.

Conservative Gary Mulvaney was in second place with 16,930 votes (2017, 15,976; 2015, Alastair Redman, 7,733).

Liberal Democrat Alan Reid, who was the area’s MP from 2001 to 2015, again failed to regain the seat, finishing with 6,832 (2017, 8,745; 2015, 14,486).

In fourth place was Rhea Barnes (Labour) with 3,248 votes (2017, Michael Kelly, 6,044; 2015, Mary Galbraith, 5,394)

The turnout was 72.4% compared to 71.6% two years ago; just under 44% of votes certified as valid were for Mr O’Hara.
