Diversion and convoy system in A83 roadworks next week

The A83 near the Rest and Be Thankful will be closed overnight next week, with roadworks also seeing a convoy system during daytime.

A stretch of the trunk road at Butterbridge will be resurfaced, with work starting on Wednesday December 11 and taking two nights to complete.

The work will take place between 7pm and 7am each night with surfacing expected to be finished by 7am on Friday December 13.

Contractors BEAR Scotland say that to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, a road closure will be needed on Wednesday between 11pm and 3am, with a signed diversion route via the A82, A85 and A819 adding about 37 minutes on to journey times.

Temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system will be in place before and after the closure, and also throughout the duration of the second night of the project.

There is a height restriction on the A819 diversion route for vehicles exceeding 15’0”.

Vehicles exceeding this height should travel to the closure points where they will be stacked until the road is reopened again.

Access for public bus services and emergency vehicles will be maintained.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west unit representative, said: “These essential resurfacing works will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the ride quality and safety for road users.

“The traffic management is essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. We’ve taken steps to help minimise disruption as much as possible by planning the works to take place over night and by closing the road between 11pm and 3am to further limit the impact of disruption.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
