New plans for food and drink outlet at Clarks in Helensburgh

Trading areas on the ground and first floors are planned

New plans have been submitted to turn the Clarks shoe shop premises in Helensburgh into a food and drink outlet.

A plan to change the use of the building in Sinclair Street was submitted three years ago and approved by Argyll and Bute Council.

No work took place however and the shop continued to trade.

Now though a detailed plan has been submitted, again by Aspin Estates Ltd, asking for a change of use and installation of an external flue.

The proposals show areas for customers on the ground and first floors, with toilets on the second floor.

If the change of use goes ahead it would be the end of an era, since the building at 42 Sinclair Street has been a shoe shop for decades, with Bayne and Duckett operating there before the national chain moved in.

The plans are available on the council’s website – the reference number is 19/01611/PP

  1. A planning application has been submitted but it does not mean there is a tenant lined up. They might just be doing what they did the last time and widening the options for letting the property as the lease is ending. On the last occasion a deal was struck with clarks to continue and this may happen again if there is no interest from another retailer.
