Mountain maintenance event on the Cobbler

Volunteers are being sought to help protect the Cobbler at a new ‘mountain maintenance’ event this month.

The event at the landmark near Arrochar on Monday May 20 will be a ‘drainage run’ – walking the route of the path, helping to clear the drainage features as you go.

It is organised by The Mountains and the People, a flagship project of the Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland.

A spokesperson said of the event: “Think of it as a nice walk on an iconic mountain in the national park, with a spade.

“This work is vitally important to ensure the newly built paths are kept in a good condition.”

Free transport will be available from Balloch – for more information or book a place email volunteering@themountainsandthepeople.org.uk

The Mountains and The People is a five-year landscape project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and in partnership with Scotland’s two national parks, Forestry Commission Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage.

It aims to repair and maintain 125km of paths, with 1,200 days of conservation volunteering opportunities for people of all abilities.
