Shock cancellation of Waverley sailings until August

Waverley cancelled

All of the Waverley paddle steamer’s sailings for several months have been cancelled.

The shock announcement was made today, weeks after the historic boat went into dry dock for maintenance.

It is the first time in decades that so many sailings have been cancelled – the Waverley was due to make extra stops at Kilcreggan since Helensburgh pier has been closed to mariners.

The steamer was hit by boiler problems last summer, and a statement from Waverley Excursions today said: “Waverley’s Clyde sailings in May, June and July and her Western Isles will not operate owing to extended boiler works which will delay her entry into service this year. We sincerely apologise for having to withdraw these sailings.

“For 11 weeks we have been working on the ships boilers but the repair has increased in complexity and cost. We are doing everything possible to get Waverley back in steam.

“Passengers who have already booked tickets will be contacted directly with regards to rebooking or refunding.

“We are taking bookings for all of Waverley’s August, September and October Scottish sailings.”
