Pilot survives microlight crash

A microlight crashed into the Holy Loch yesterday morning.

Helensburgh lifeboat was launched at 11:26an after receiving a report was received that the aircraft had come down near the Cowal Peninsula.

A dive boat was nearby and landed the uninjured pilot at Sandpoint Marina. The microlight was towed to shore.

The RNLI crew returned to their station, at Rhu Marina, reporting ready for service again just after 1pm.

  1. Interesting. Had it been a bigger plane there would have been casualties. I understand that while there were some deaths and injuries, in the first war many pilots walked away from crashes.

    You wonder what the fuel consumption of a microlight as against a car. If they were comparable and there was some weather protection how difficult are they to fly and whether they would be a viable alternative.

    Just wondering, it really is an impractical idea.
