Temporary diversion opened for A82 roadworks

Contractors say that a milestone has been reached in £1.1m roadworks on the A82 this week.

A new two-lane temporary diversion road has been opened as part of the Clifton culvert replacement scheme in Tyndrum.

The temporary road will allow vehicles to safely pass by the works traffic lights or a lengthy alternative route.

Work is now underway to replace the existing sub-standard culvert, which is located on the western edge of Tyndrum and is showing signs of continuing deterioration. The replacement structure has been designed to have a 120-year life span, helping to ensure the road will continue to function safely for years to come.

In addition, new safety barriers will be installed at this location to improve road user safety on this stretch of the A82.

The temporary two-lane diversion road will remain in place until the culvert replacement works are completed

Temporary traffic lights will be used to control the flow of traffic whilst the temporary road is being removed during the final stage of the project in the spring. The works are due to be completed in May 2019.

A reduced speed limit of 30mph is in place on the temporary diversion road for the safety of road workers and motorists.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West representative said: “We are delighted that the scheme at Clifton culvert is progressing well, and the installation of the two-lane temporary diversion road will help ensure that any disruption to motorists is kept to a minimum while we carry out this essential project.

“We encourage all road users to follow any signs or traffic management that is in place for their own safety as well as that of our teams and remind them to plan ahead and leave some extra time before they travel.”
