Kilcreggan ferry passenger numbers still recovering

Passenger numbers on the Kilcreggan ferry have increased by over 8% since new operators Clyde Marine took over, latest statistics reveal.

But the service has still not fully recovered from years of poor reliability after Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) awarded the contract to Clydelink – the total number of passengers is lower than in 2016.

A report to Friday’s meeting of SPT’s operations committee makes no mention of the possible impact of the 50% increase in ticket prices which accompanied the change of operator in May.

But it does note that for the first two periods of this year, when Clydelink was trying often in vain to use the Island Princess, reliability was 81% and then 73%.

Once Clyde Marine took over with the MV Chieftain, reliability for the next four periods was 99%-100%.

In the most recent period formally reported (ending September 29) there was one day of weather-related disruption and reliability for the period was 97%.

The report states that for the year to date the total passenger numbers were 25,384, down by 7.3% from 27,392 the previous year, but since the operator changed it has been up 8.4% on the previous year.
