Royal Navy sailors hosted a group of Erskine veterans and their caring staff during a visit to Faslane this week.

They were taken on a guided tour of the naval base and treated to a buffet lunch in the Warrant Officers’ and Senior Rates Mess where a raffle was also held to raise cash for Erskine.

Before leaving the base, the veterans, staff and fund-raising team were presented with a cheque for £1,853.42 which has been raised by HMNB Clyde staff.

The Scottish Salmon Company  has become the first salmon producer in the UK to be awarded a two-star ‘Best Aquaculture Practice’ (BAP) certification.

The company has recently been awarded a second star for its processing sites at Cairndow on Loch Fyne and in Stornoway.

BAP is administered by the Global Aquaculture Alliance and is compliant with the Global Food Safety Initiative, Global Social Compliance Programme and Global Sustainable Seafood

BAP is the only certification to cover the entire aquaculture production chain, from hatcheries to farms to processing plants.

The Scottish Salmon Company has now reached the second stage towards achieving full BAP certification across all of its operations.

Mike Berthet, BAP’S market development manager for the EU, said: ‘’This is a major milestone for BAP certification in Europe and in particular for the Scottish salmon farming industry.”
