Woman (45) dies in road crash near Helensburgh

Police are appealing for information following the death of a woman in a road crash near Helensburgh today.

Around 9.10am a Vauxhall Meriva, travelling west, and an eastbound Volkswagen Tiguan collided on the A818 at Daligan.

Police Scotland say the 45 year-old female driver of the Vauxhall Meriva died at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 71 year-old man, and his 70 year-old female passenger, were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medical staff describe their condition as serious but stable.

The road was re-opened at approximately 2.40 pm.

Sergeant Paul MacPherson, of Dumbarton Road Policing Unit, is appealing for witnesses to the crash.

He said: “Although a number of people stopped to assist at the time, I am still keen to hear from anyone who may have either witnessed the crash or indeed who saw the cars on the road prior to it happening.

“If you have any information that you think may assist our enquiries, then please contact Dumbarton Road Policing Unit via 101. Please quote incident number 0718 Monday 8 October 2018.”
