Michelin Bib award for Sugar Boat

The Sugar Boat restaurant in Helensburgh has been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand award.

The bistro, which opened in Colquhoun Square two years ago, is one of 143 establishments in the newly released 2019 guide – only eight of which are in Scotland.

Named after Bibendum, the famous ‘Michelin Man’, the Bib awards highlight restaurants ‘which offer good quality, good value cooking’.

The new additions were announced on last week, ahead of Monday’s launch of the new Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Rebecca Burr, director of the Michelin Guide, said: “Prices and value for money are important, but the Bib Gourmand is about much more.

“It’s about the ethos and philosophy of a restaurant.

“The Michelin inspectors love finding new Bib Gourmands and they’re always hugely popular with our readers.”

A total of 27 new Bib Gourmands have been added to the 2019 guide, with Monadh Kitchen in Glasgow joining the Sugar Boat.

Already in the guide were Dogs, Galvin Brasserie de Luxe and the Scran and Scallie in Edinburgh, Ox and Finch in Glasgow, Osso in Peebles and Argyll’s Kilberry Inn.
