Historic Bloomhill in Cardross could be turned into flats

An extension would be added to the 19th century building

Plans to convert and extend an historic villa in Cardross have been revealed.

The former Clyde View care home off Carman Road would be turned into 14 flats if the proposals are successful.

Bloomhill was built in 1838 for Alexander Ferrier, and a statement submitted to Argyll and Bute Council by Organic Architects says it is no longer trading as a care home.

The architects say of the C-listed building that ‘fine stone detailing survives’ but they add that ‘the roof finish and structure requires some attention to prevent future dilapidation’.

Applications for planning and listed building permission have been submitted which would see ‘careful demolition of 20th century additions’ and an extension added to form a total of 14 two-bedroom flats, as well as 28 parking spaces.

The architects say the extension is needed to make the project feasibly financially because of the extent of work needed to convert the building from being a care home.

“As a standalone project the conversion of the existing building alone will not be financially viable,” they say.

“The change o use to residential flats will secure the future of this listed building.

“The conversion to residential use will bring life back to the building.”

Full details of the planning application are on the council’s website – the reference number is 18/01361/PP
