Arrochar roadworks get underway

Drainage and pavements are to be improved in Arrochar

A third set of roadworks is under way on the A83 near Arrochar, with holiday traffic about to hit its peak.

Road drainage and pavement i8mprovements on the stretch will see traffic lights between Tarbet and Arrochar for the next six weeks.

Summer holidays at most schools in England will start at the end of this week, and tourists heading for the west coast will also find long-term roadworks at the Rest and Be Thankful, as well as delays at Glen Kinglas.

Contractors BEAR Scotland say the £140,000 project will widen both the footway and carriageway by 30cms, along with upgrades to all existing gullies and pipework over a section of the road almost 500m long between the Slanj Restaurant and the Tarbet Tearooms.

The works will be carried out during the day time between 7am and 7pm each day with no work at weekends.

The road will remain open throughout the improvements with access to properties and businesses maintained but temporary traffic lights will be in place and parts of the pavement will be closed.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative, said:  “The drainage improvements will help ensure any excess water on the A83 is drained away from the carriageway effectively, helping to improve road safety.

“The footway upgrades will also improve the pedestrian facilities on this section of the A83, including removing the grass strip to widen the footway by around 30cms.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible. We thank road users for their patience in advance and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for real-time journey information.”
