Second motorcyclist in four days dies on A82

The road is still closed, with a long diversion in place

A motor cyclist has died following a road traffic crash on the A82 beside Loch Lomond.

It is the second fatality involving a motorbike on the notorious stretch of road in just four days.

Police Scotland say that at around midday today the 64-year-old motor cyclist was travelling north on the A82 on a white, red and blue Honda motorcycle when it was involved in a collision with a silver-coloured Vauxhall Vivaro van that was travelling in the opposite direction near to Ardvorlich Cottage.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 33 year-old driver of the van was not injured.

Sergeant Archie McGuire at Campbeltown road policing department would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone who was travelling on the A82, near to a set of roadworks close to where the crash occurred.

Anyone with information or dash-cam footage should contact that department via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 1472 of July 9 2018.

The road remains closed, with traffic taking a 50-mile diversion via the A83 to Inveraray, then the A819 and A85
