Latest report shows improvements at Kilcreggan primary

Kilcreggan primary school’s performance has improved over the last 12 months, the latest report by Education Scotland has said.

Inspectors visited the school in 2016 and 2017, saying last year that staffing shortages were a problem but praising the headteacher’s performance.

The latest report, by Marion Burns, highlights improvements in several areas but says a progress report will be needed next year.

It says that most pupils are now ‘attaining national levels of attainment in literacy and numeracy’ and that the staff team is ‘more stable’.

There are noticeable improvements in reading, it adds, while children’s learning experiences have improved over the last two years.

“We can see that the school has made positive progress with the arrangements for monitoring, evaluating and improving its work,” the report adds.

“The headteacher, practitioners, teachers and support staff have also made steady progress with reviewing and improving the curriculum.

“Children and parents have been included in helping to improve the curriculum. Parents value their increased involvement with the school.”
