Post office ‘working hard’ to find solution for Rhu

The Post Office says it is ‘working hard’ to restores services in Rhu, after the village’s post office closed its doors earlier this month.

Residents are now having to travel to Helensburgh or Garelochhead for essential services. with the shop on the A814 out of action.

In recent years Clynder and Cove have both lost their village post offices, with villagers forced to travel to Rosneath or Kilcreggan instead.

But a spokesperson at Post Office headquarters in London said its network of branches had been ‘stable since 2012′.

He added: “ While it’s true that in the Post Office’s history, there have been closure programmes, that is certainly not the case now.

“We’ve also been busy modernising and investing in our branches to ensure they can continue to serve communities for many generations to come.

“Unfortunately from time to time, Post Office branches do temporarily close for reasons often beyond our control. The majority of our branches are run by independent retailers and as we are not the owners of the premises, this regrettably means that we are unable to reopen the branches ourselves.

“However, we always want to see services back up and running as quickly as possible and would like to reassure people that we are working hard to find a solution to restore services to the Rhu community as soon as possible.”
