First stretch of new path to Rosneath under way

Work on the first stage of a long-awaited footpath near Rosneath was due to be completed this summer.

Construction of the initial stretch along the B833 will cost £100,000, with Argyll and Bute Council receiving funding From Sustrans.

Last August the council announced that Sustrans had provided a total of £250,000 for a path all the way from Rosneath village to the junction with the access road for Rosneath Castle Caravan Park.

The road currently has little or no verge in places and is s frequently used by pedestrians who have to dodge oncoming traffic.

An Argyll and Bute Council spokesperson said this week: “The first phase of this project is on course to be completed this summer and will make for an improved walking and cycling experience in and around Rosneath.”

But he added that phase two of the work, which would include an extension of the path, was ‘still in the early development stage’.
