Diver rescued in Loch Long – then malicious call sparked helicopter search

Rescue teams were called out twice on the Clyde yesterday – to help a diver in ‘extreme difficulty’ and then to a late night callout which is being treated as malicious.

Helensburgh RNLI, a coastguard helicopter and an air ambulance were all called to help the diver in Loch Long at 11.38am  – he was taken to hospital by helicopter.

Then just before 10pm coastguard teams from Greenock and Largs took a call from a vessel named ‘Lady Muck’ which was reported as taking on water around the Lunderston Bay area of Inverclyde.

A Ministry of Defence Police launch, RNLI lifeboat, and Coastguard rescue helicopter took part in the search with nothing found.

Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team said today: “We are currently treating this call as malicious, however should you have any further information relating to this call or vessel please contact Belfast Coastguard on 0344 382 0037.”
