Vote of thanks for Argyll and Bute workers after snow clear-up

Roads across the whole area were affected by heavy snow earlier this month.

Council workers are to be thanked for their work in clearing the roads after heavy snow and ice during the ‘Beast of the East’ storm earlier this month.

Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council will write a letter of thanks to Argyll and Bute Council, after workers battled against strong winds and deep, drifting snow which saw the Rosneath Peninsula effectively cut off for two days.

John Auld made the suggestion at this week’s community council meeting, saying: “They have not got an easy task and they have done what they could when they could – and some of what they did was outstanding.”

Nick Davies agreed and said the local community should also be grateful to Mr Auld, a farmer who used his tractor to clear roads at times ranging from 5.30am to 10.30pm.

Mr Auld also said that, perhaps because of ‘surface dressing’ last year, roads in Argyll and Bute were in a relatively good condition after the snow and ice had melted, when compared to other areas such as  the main road to Stirling.

“We complain sometimes about the spraying and chipping, but for my money there has been a benefit in this area,” he said.
