Industrial units plan for Cardross revealed

The units would run parallel with the railway line.

Industrial units are being planned for a site near the A814 and Cardross.

The Claddoch Centre on Moss Road would see ten new units under plans submitted to Argyll and Bute Council.

A supporting statement by agents the Hay Partnership says the site is effectively brownfield, having been used to dismantle railway and repair defence boom equipment since World War Two.

They add that for the last 20 years the site, between a waste water plant and a nursery and garden centre, has had a number of tenants using portacabin offices and a yard area.

“An application in 2017 seeking an established use certificate was refused simply due to uncertainty over the continuity of some aspects,” they add.

“However this new application offers an alternative means of considering and regularising the situation against local plan policies.”

Ten units, each measuring 10m by 10m and running parallel to the railway line, are proposed, together with parking and drainage.

The agents add: “For the last few decades the towns of Helensburgh and Cardross have been very limited in the number of industrial properties that were available to local people.

“To date there has been very little in the way of new industrial units being introduced to address this demand and so areas such as the Claddoch Centre – which are away from the town centre and housing areas – have experienced regular interest from contractors.”

They say the site is now more suitable since the level crossing has been upgraded, and that it is classed as a potential development area by the council.

More details are available on the council website – the reference number is 18/00364/PP
