‘Immediate action’ is being taken to fix serious potholes on the A83 at Arrochar.

Transport Scotland and contractors BEAR Scotland stepped in after numerous drivers complained of punctures and damaged suspension.

Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell welcomed the news and said he had been calling for action for several weeks after a sharp increase in complaints.

“As a regular user of the road myself I too have noticed a massive increase in potholes and places where the surface appears to be breaking up,” he said.

“I am grateful to all those who have used social media and other means to draw attention to this unacceptable state of affairs and I am glad that their concerns have now been listened to.

“I would urge road users to continue to monitor the situation and to ensure that the promises are kept.”

Mr Russell said he had held a telephone conference with the company’s senior management and had been assured that immediate action would be taken to fix the worst of the potholes at Arrochar, as well as Inveraray and Inverneill.

BEAR also said there would be more regular inspections, emergency follow-up work and a repair programme to replace sections of eh road surface where necessary.

  1. I have just driven from Garelochhead to Lochgilphead and the A83, all the way from Arrochar to Lochgilphead, has the worst potholes I have seen on it for many years. Another Councillors raised this with me about half an hour ago and wee agreed that the A83 has never been so bad. Transport Scotland need to address this problem as a matter of urgency.
