News in brief: Devil’s Pulpit rescue, amenity society brewing funds, lifeboat called out

Mountain rescuers were called out once again to the Devil’s Pulpit at Finnich Glen on Sunday.

The Lomond Mountain Rescue Team used a specialist rope team to extract a man and two children, with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Ambulance Service also called out.

In August the team appealed for visitors to beware of the hazards of the spectacular natural feature, made famous as a location for hit TV series Outlander.

The rescue team has now been called to five emergencies in the area recently, having to extract cold, wet and trapped visitors by raising them vertically up the mossy, wet walls by rope – the steep sides of the gorge mean it is often impossible to call for help by mobile phone

A coffee morning in aid of the Rosneath Peninsula Amenity Society is being held in Cove Burgh Hall this Friday (October 27).

Local crafts including ceramics, art, will be on sale from 10am to 12 noon – admission is £5, which includes tea or coffee and home baking.

You can make a regular date with the amenity society holding similar events at the same time on the last Friday of every month until March.

The Helensburgh lifeboat was called out on Saturday afternoon after a 16-feet boat was reported to be adrift off Gourock.

The RNLI boat was launched at 3.14pm and found the vessel had no people aboard and was full of debris.

The lifeboat crew towed the vessel and secured it ashore near Royal Gourock Yacht Club.
