Councillors from Helensburgh will be the leader and depute leader of Argyll and Bute Council, it was revealed yesterday.
Liberal Democrat Aileen Morton is leader for the first time, with Conservative Gary Mulvaney depute.
Independent Len Scoullar of Bute will continue as provost, with Roddy McCuish, who is now an independent but was council leader while a member of the SNP, depute provost.
Also confirmed at yesterday’s first meeting of the council after this month’s elections were the following policy lead appointments: corporate services, Rory Colville; communities, housing, islands and Gaelic, Robin Currie; health and social care/chair or vice chair of integrated joint board, Kieron Green; planning and regulatory services, David Kinniburgh; roads and amenity services, Roddy McCuish; education, Yvonne McNeilly; economic development, Aileen Morton; strategic finance and capital regeneration programme, Gary Mulvaney.
As another Argyll & Bute councillor said to me on Thursday, this is the long awaited Helensburgh takeover of Argyll & Bute.
