News in Brief: Serious assault, drink drive arrest, mountain rescue team in action

CID are investigating a serious assault in Helensburgh on Friday night (February 17).

A 44 year-old man received head injuries in the attack in Buchanan Road at 10pm.

Witnesses are asked to call 101 or use the confidential Crimestoppers service.

Meanwhile, a 22 year-old man was arrested for drink driving at 1am on Saturday morning on East Princes Street in the town.

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team was in action on Sunday, helping to rescue a casualty with an ankle injury along the boggy path towards The Whangie.

The walker was quickly splinted, and packaged in a Blizzard Protection Systems foil wrap, inside a casualty bag.

He was then carried, in a stretcher, along the wet and slippery track in ‘dreich’ conditions down to a waiting Scottish Ambulance Service vehicle.
