Kilcreggan still in the dark after power cut?

Kilcreggan at night? Parts of the village are still in the dark.

Parts of Kilcreggan have been left in the dark, with street lights still not working after a power cut ten days ago.

Power supplies were reduced and at some points completely cut off on the evening of Sunday January 29.

Power to homes and business was restored later that night, but many of the new LED street lights remained out of action for several days and some are still not working.

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council said today: “The outages in the area appear to have been caused by a power supply issue and we are liaising with Scottish Power to resolve it.

“Work is carried out by our street-lighting section as other priorities and available budgets permit.”

The new LED lights have proved controversial, with some community councillors saying they create a safety risk.

And Argyll and Bute Councillor George Freeman told last month’s meeting of Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council that it had taken weeks for lights in Garelochhead to be repaired, blaming last year’s cutbacks in council spending.

The council says the new lights are more efficient and its replacement programme will have saved around £600,000.
