EE phone mast plan promises better mobile reception in Argyll

A new mast to give better mobile phone reception across the Rosneath and Cowal peninsulas is being planned for Cove.

Plans for the 17.5-metre tower at Peaton Farm on Peaton Road in Cove have been submitted to Argyll and Bute Council.

Mobile phone operating company EE says the tower would improve mobile, data and emergency services coverage to more remote areas.

Tom Gallivan of agents Wilkinson Helsby said in a written that several sites in the council’s area had been proposed to improve remote coverage.

“All of these sites are key to improving coverage to areas that currently have little or no adequate telecommunication service,” he added.

“The site is required to provide enhanced coverage for EE and H3G in order to improve coverage in the surrounding area.

“The cell search area for 3G and 4G are extremely constrained with a typical cell radius of approx. 250m meaning that it would not be feasible to site the installation outside of this locale.

“Taking into account the factors of technical constraints, available sites and planning constraints we consider that this site and design clearly represents the optimum environmental solution.”

The plans are available on the council’s website – the reference number is 16/02660/PP
