Drivers are facing a week of disruption on the main road through Rhu.
A convoy system will be used on the A814, starting this Saturday – the opening of Helensburgh Winter Festival.
Local residents fear the delays will be especially bad during the peak times for Faslane commuters.
A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council said: “This is the last of our road improvement projects in Lomond, part of our successful four year improvement programme which has seen our road network improve faster than any other in Scotland.
“The contractor will be on site from Saturday starting to plane out the existing surface, which should take around two days.
“Surfacing works will last approximately five days.”
