News in brief: Free parking for Helensburgh festival, fly tippers strike, woodland demonstration

Charges on all public car parks in Helensburgh will be suspended for the town’s Winter Festival this weekend.

Argyll and Bute Council said that parking machines in the off-street car parks would be bagged-up on Friday November 25, with signs to let people know there will be no charge on the subsequent two days.

Garden waste including iron sections from a bench was dumped by the entrance to the forest walk last week – the fourth time the Rosneath Peninsula has been targeted in recent years.

Environment agency SEPA asks the public to report fly tipping via the Dumb Dumpers website or calling 08452 304090.

A free community woodland demonstration will be held at Duchess Wood in Helensburgh on Saturday December 10.

Simon Lockwood of Lockwood Forest Services will explain about firewood preparation, storage and coppicing and there will be logs for sale.
